Congregational Letter – September 10, 2020

Dear Family and Friends in Christ,

We hope this letter finds you in good health and doing well, even in these ever changing and uncertain times of the Coronavirus Pandemic. We want you to know that we have been constantly praying for you, and in conversation about how we can, together with you, move forward to a schedule and routine that feels just a bit more ‘normal.’ Something that we are all so desperately craving. It has been of the utmost importance for all of us to make sure that we heard and seriously considered your opinions on this matter, which is why we sent out the survey that was completed and thoroughly reviewed over the last week. Thank you to those of you who took the time to fill that out and share your thoughts on Corona and the Church. With those things in mind, we wanted to come to you to share some news and reveal our Fall plans.

First and foremost, we come to you today in celebration of all that God has done for Mount Calvary during this Pandemic. Back in May, when we sent out our plans for the first step toward reopening, we encouraged everyone to cling to the words in John 14 where Jesus encourages us to trust in Him, even when we don’t know the future. We encouraged everyone to see this time as an opportunity for growth and trust – even in the midst of the struggle and pain that this pandemic has caused all of us. And we, Mount Calvary Family, have done just that. Through Facebook Live Bible Studies, Online and In-House Worship, Zoom Youth Bible Study, Recorded Devotional Videos, Emails, Phone calls, and so much more, we have continued to stay as connected as possible, all the while growing in faith and in relationship with Christ. Our Facebook page and streaming services have reached members of God’s Kingdom all across the country. This is truly something to be thankful for!

Additionally, God has indeed continued to provide for all our needs as, through you, we have maintained a budget that is healthier than it has been in recent past. During the time of quarantine, we have seen offerings continue to rise as we continued to trust God. We were granted the PPP where we were able to cover salaries and bills without worry or panic. We have been able to make much needed repairs to God’s House. And while we remain committed to being good stewards of our money, and continue to give in faith, we celebrate the fact that God has used your generosity toward the church, and has truly carried us through these times better than we could have ever hoped for or imagined.

With that all being said, we want you to know, without any doubt or reservation that we miss you and that YOU are needed. While last Sunday, we saw more families worship in person for the first time since March, there are still many faces that we miss, and pray for regularly. We continue to see many of the church family out at restaurants, stores, and other places around the community. We want you to know that Church is also a safe place for you to be. We sanitize all surfaces between services. There are hand sanitizers and masks that are readily available to all who enter. Pews are marked to help everyone who is seated maintain proper and appropriate distancing. The Elders dismiss after Worship to ensure flow of traffic. And, along with all other businesses, we too encourage wearing masks indoors according to the state mandate. If you are comfortable participating in other public events around the community, we encourage you to return to worship.

Online Worship is a great ministry that we have at Mount Calvary. Our technology has been updated and was one of the leaders in the area throughout quarantine because of our commitment to digital ministry. Online Worship has been and remains a great resource for those who cannot attend in person due to health reasons. Online Worship, however, was never intended to replace in-person Worship for everyone. If you have developed the routine of worshipping with us online, we are so glad that our technology has allowed for this. However, we encourage you to make this the weekend that you return to your precious routine of gathering together in person, in God’s House, together with the body of Christ, the Church.

So, as we move forward together, we would like to let you know how we will handle the Fall Schedule beginning September 20, 2020. This schedule and the detailed procedures are attached. We prayerfully hope to see you all back home with us as soon as you are able. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to any one of us with questions, concerns, or prayer requests.

Love in Christ,

Rev. David and DCE Molly Bergelin

Mount Calvary Ministry Opportunities: Fall 2020

**While this is the plan, we ask for your patience and understanding as regulations and mandates are changing all the time. These things are subject to change; however, we will always communicate those changes to you. And as always, if you are experiencing symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID we ask that you stay home.**

9:00am, 11:00am – Sunday

6:30pm – Monday

  • At this time, there is no need to sign up or register for services as we are able to maintain appropriate social distancing with no problems.
  • Parking is encouraged to take place in the front of our building (on the Mineral Point side) as you will be asked to enter through the Luke doors only. The other doors will remain locked to help minimize touch points. The doors will be opened 30 minutes before each service for seating. We encourage you to arrive early to help regulate flow and minimize close proximity interaction during arrival. We understand that you may not be able to sit where you normally do and we thank you for your understanding as we adjust our practices during this time.
  • As you enter, a masked elder will be standing at the door to greet you with a clipboard of all the names of our members on it. This individual will check you off as you arrive. This replaces the Friendship Register in the pews. Please do not be offended if they ask who you are – let us look at this as a great opportunity to become better acquainted with our brothers and sisters in Christ!
  • Following the service, we ask that you remain seated and wait for the elders to dismiss you from your seats to ensure a gathering does not occur while leaving the building. Exiting the building will take place through the Mark doors only.
  • In accordance with the current state mandate, we encourage you to wear a mask for the duration of the time you are in the building. If you do not have a mask, disposable one-wear masks will be available for pick up as you enter through the doors.
  • Restrooms will be available for you to use and have been thoroughly sanitized and will be both before and after worship services. We simply ask that you leave main doors propped open to minimize touch points.
  • We encourage you to avoid using the drinking fountains in order to reduce touch points. You may bring your own water bottle, if you feel that you will need that during your time at church.
  • We have removed all hymnals and Bibles from the pews in the Sanctuary and will not be distributing orders of Worship. The entire service will be printed on the screens for you to follow. Those with visual impairments that are still in need of large print bulletins may request one from the office.
  • Offering plates will be on stands as you enter/exit the Sanctuary. Please place your offering envelopes in one of these plates. Offerings will not be taken during worship. Online giving still remains an option as well through both Simply Giving registration and through If you are interested in online giving and have not yet registered, feel free to call the church office and we will help you set that up.
  • Opportunity for the Lord’s Supper will be available during the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. This will take place in a continuous flow with proper social distancing between family groups. Both Pastor and the Elder will be masked. If you are not comfortable participating during worship, Lord’s Supper will still be available by appointment by calling the office.
  • Pastor Bergelin will be at the back of the church greeting you at the conclusion of the service. He will not shake hands with you but will extend a friendly (masked) smile and a warm hello.
  • News and notes will be printed and available for you to take as you exit the building.
  • We know that it has been a long time since you have seen other members of your church family, so we invite you to stay in the parking lot and visit, so long as you observe a safe 6ft social distance from each other.
  • Coffee and Donuts, as well as indoor fellowship is still suspended at this time
